The 1959 Topps baseball set remains immensely popular today due to its colorful design and its large variety of stars and Hall of Famers. Sandy Koufax is one of the most widely-collected postwar ballplayers and his card #163 from this set is no exception. The card itself is a relative condition scarcity; with nearly 1 800 copies graded by PSA to date just 147 have attained a level of 8. In comparison other HOFers have a much higher percentage of graded examples that have achieved a grade of 8 or better.It is very difficult not to make the argument that this particular Koufax isn"t worthy of an even higher grade; a very very slight L-R centering issue along with a mild fish-eye in the lettering (common with 1950s and 60s Topps cards) is likely what kept the card out of a higher holder. The card"s eye appeal is fantastic however with brilliant color and near-perfect corners and edges.
