I have one to sell!
While the 1913 Pan Handle Scrap tobacco T221 Championship Women Swimmers cards are relatively common in singles and small lots complete sets are virtually unheard of. In fact our research cannot locate a complete set having been sold at auction. The set features 100 cards of a variety of female swimmers some in playful or even semi-seductive poses outfitted in the (not very revealing) bathing attire of the early 1900s. Featuring what appears to be colorized black and white photos inset into bright orange borders each card is printed on glossy stock and features biographical information on the subject featured on the card front. The set features ten cards of Annette Kellerman the well-known swimmer and film star of the era and first woman to attempt swimming the English Channel. Kellerman was also known for the first motion picture nude scene by a major film star for her role in a film called A Daughter of the Gods. This is an extraordinary set. Despite it being a midgrade set it presents extremely well with many of the cards suffering from lower technical grades due to light wrinkles and many others due to wrinkles and creasing that are unobtrusive and do not greatly impact the visual appeal of the cards. Virtually all the cards exhibit exceptional image quality. While some do have some back damage the overwhelming majority of these are extremely presentable. 18% EX or better 24% VG/EX 30% VG 20% G 8% F or worse. 100 cards total.
