During the 1973 season Dennis Clotworthy worked as the visiting team batboy at Tiger Stadium. This means that for each Tigers home game young Dennis would don the uniform of the visiting team and serve as their batboy. Uniforms and caps were of course provided by each visiting team. Over the course of his tenure with the Tigers Dennis accumulated a collection of game-worn caps from each team in the American League. That collection is presented here. Each cap is a professional model game worn by the team batboy and in many cases by an actual player. Condition and any particular issues with caps are noted herein. 1) New York Yankees - KM brand cap size 7 1/4. Outstanding condition very little signs of use or wear. 2) Detroit Tigers - New Era brand cap size 7 1/2. Well-worn cap with significant staining and discoloration along the interior band as well as the inner brim. The number 9 has been written on the inner brim in marker suggesting possible use by outfielder/infielder Ike Brown who wore number 9 in 1972 and 1973. Cap is slightly dusty from display. 3) Boston Red Sox - KM brand cap size 7 1/8. Outstanding condition very little signs or use. 4) Baltimore Orioles - Wilson brand cap size 7 1/4. Presents well with slight discoloration to the orange brim and squatchee and moderate signs of wear on the inner band. 5) California Angels - KM Brand cap size 7 1/8. Signs of moderate wear mostly in the form of some staining on the brim and squatchee along with some loose threads. The number 3 has been written in marker on the inner brim suggesting possible use by infielder Rudy Meoli who wore number 3 in 1973. 6) Milwaukee Brewers - KM brand cap size 7 3/8. Excellent condition some signs of wear and dustiness from display. The number 21 has been written in marker on the inner brim suggesting use by either outfielder Curt Motton (who wore number 21 in 1972) or infielder John Vukovich (who wore number 21 in 1973). 7) Oakland A's - KM brand cap size 7 1/8. Signs of extensive use and wear including discoloration to the brim and roughness to the cap's inner band. The squatchee is missing though the cap still presents well. 8) Chicago White Sox - Wilson brand cap (size tag removed) attributed to pitcher Wilbur Wood. Extensive signs of use including staining and discoloration throughout. The number 28 has been written in marker on the inner brim. 9) Kansas City Royals - New Era brand cap size 7 1/8. Outstanding condition some dustiness from display. &
