Among the more beautiful issues of its time the W554 set includes photographic images of 18 different subjects each measuring 5" x 7". Featuring an outstanding selection of the era's greats 13 of the issue's 18 players eventually found their way into the Hall of Fame led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Despite the issue's small size the cards are not particularly plentiful complete sets difficult to assemble. Further the cards can be found in two different variations with one version (known as "Series 1") printed in sepia tone on heavier stock with the player's name position and team printed at the bottom. The second variation known as "Series 2" are black and white cards on thinner lighter stock with no player name or team information printed at the bottom. All but the Mickey Cochrane card share their images with the R316 Kashin cards of 1929. Presented is a seldom-seen complete SGC-graded W554 set of 18 cards plus six additional cards representing variations in series or color. Assembled by an advanced collector with intense knowledge of the issue the collection includes a complete Series 1 set along with two Series 1 cards that appear to have slightly different print coloration that borders on black and white. Those two cards are not recognized variations but we are including them as duplicates that do present quite differently from one another as you can see from the scans. Additionally the collection includes five Series 2 variations. Though the set is a mixed-grade set each card presents wonderfully with a clean crisp and well-defined image.
