Long after his Hall of Fame playing career had ended the great Eddie Collins continued on in baseball first as a coach and then as General Manager of the Red Sox. In that capacity Collins completed a transaction in late 1940 (just after his enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame) sending pitchers Fritz Ostermueller and Denny Galehouse to the St. Louis Browns for $30 000. Presented here is an officialdocument formalizing the transaction dated December 4 of 1940 and signed by Collins as well as Browns GM Bill DeWitt. The document itself an official Major League form agreement carries the seal of approval from the Commissioner of Baseball (still Judge Landis at that time) and presents in outstanding condition. The Collins signature is clean and large flowing outside its designated space but still presenting clean and strong. The DeWitt signature is slightly more refined but equally bold and clean. A fantastic official agreement documenting the sale of two well-known players one of which (Galehouse) played on the Browns' 1944 pennant-winning team.
