Attractive pair of items related to Abraham Lincoln and his assassination. Collection contains the following: 1) 1865 memorial broadside as reproduced in 1873. This 9 1/4" x 24" advertisement was printed on thin newsprint but mounted on heavy board that contains pencil notations on the reverse. The broadside commemorates the assassination of Lincoln at the Ford's Theater as well as the performance of Our American Cousin the play starring Laura Keene that Lincoln was attending when assassinated. The broadside exhibits significant wear chipping and toning but due to being mounted on the board is fairly well-protected. 2) Laura Keene cigar box. Keene the British actress who starred in Our American Cousin famously cradled the dying President's head in her lap after his shooting; the cuff of her dress containing Lincoln's blood resides in the National Museum of American History. The wooden cigar box is entirely intact and in outstanding condition the interior label still firmly attached and remnants of one exterior label still present. Beautiful collection of 19th Century memorabilia relating to the assassination of one of our most important Presidents.
