Interesting collection of Jimmy Carter and Carter/Mondale campaign buttons along with a "Jimmy The Walking Peanut" novelty toy in its original box (though the box has certainly seen better days). Carter appeared as a relative unknown during the early days of the 1976 election campaign one of ten Democrats seeking the nomination. Carter campaigned aggressively choosing Minnesota senator Mondale as his running mate and subsequently ran against the unpopular president Ford. A host of buttons chronicle the 1976 election and inauguration as well as the subsequent 1980 election (which Carter/Mondale lost to the Reagan/Bush ticket). Most notable among these buttons is the "I'm A Play Boy For Carter " referring to his ill-advised Playboy magazine interview that cost him considerable points in the 1976 pre-election polls. 20 buttons total plus the peanut.
