Catcher Jack Clements had a lengthy major league career; 17 years with most spent with the Philadelphia Quakers/Phillies. His lifetime batting average was a respectable .287 during that time a left-handed catcher who experimented with a variety of catcher's glove types during his career as well as a unique inflatible chest protector. Depicted here without either the image of Clements crouched into a fielding position is clear and unblemished tough visible foxing impacts the photograph to the subject's left and right. The mount remains in great shape prompting a grade of VG 40 from SGC. The N173 cards are unique in that they were fulfilled by request from their recipients. Naturally the majority of requests for photographs from fans featured the most popular players of the era - Cap Anson Buck Ewing Dan Brouthers etc. Today N173 cards of more common players are often more difficult to locate hence the particularly low graded population of N173 Clements cards in the hobby today.
