Conservatively-graded example of the blue-background E98 card of the Christian Gentleman Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson. Graded VG 40 by SGC the card boasts a sharp well-centered image along with very mild edge and corner wear that are quite inconsistent with the grade. We can only assume that surface wear and minor staining ont he front and back were sufficient enough to cause the grading team at SGC to reduce the technical grade though the card presents significantly more strongly. A very appealing example of a most desirable card.
