Pair of tickets from the Cincinnati Reds' final game at Crosley Field and their first at Riverfront Stadium. Crosley Field was the home of the Reds from 1912 through 1970 as well as home of the Cincinnati Bengals for a time. Named after local businessman Powel Crosley (to advertise his Crosley brand of automobile) Crosley Field became the location of the first Major League Baseball night game on May 24 1935 against the Phillies. The team's final game at Crosley June 24 of 1970 was a dramatic one with the reds tying the game in the eighth inning on a Johnny Bench home run off Juan Marichal. Immediately after Lee May completed the back-to-back the Reds winning the game 5-4. The ticket stub commemorating that game is in poor condition torn at the perforation and with handwritten notations on the face. Still the display characteristics of the stub are strong. Riverfront Stadium opened just a few days later on June 30 of 1970 against the Atlanta Braves. The Braves defeated the Reds 8-2 with Hank Aaron hitting a two-run home run in the first inning. The 1970 All-Star game would be played at Riverfront just two weeks later the site of the legendary home plate collision between the Reds' Pete Rose and Cleveland catcher Ray Fosse. The stub from the opening game at Riverfront is in FAIR condition but displays much nicer a very tiny staple mark with two associated holes present at the top.
