NOTE: True to form just a few hours after this auction opened for bidding we received an email from one of our bidders who advised us (and sent photographic proof) of another example of this postcard that exists. He purchased it at auction several years ago graded SGC 20. Therefore as we speculated this is NOT the only surviving example. Offered at auction five years ago as a "one of one" example we have been unable to locate another specimen of this unique real photo postcard of Pittsburgh great Honus Wagner. While unique offerings such as this often have the effect of shaking new examples out of the woodwork such a phenomenon did not occur after the initial sale of this piece leading us to believe that perhaps this truly is a "one of one" postcard of Wagner one of several such photos we are proud to feature in this auction. This particular example features Wagner in full uniform clearly toward the end of his career the rigors of professional sports written plainly on his face. Despite this Wagner maintains a regal quality about him authoritatively gazing at the photographer while still casually resting. Graded FAIR 20 by SGC the primary reason for the grade appears to be the staining and toning on the reverse. Postally unused the card retains sensational image quality a beautifully-composed and well-executed photograph likely one of a kind.
