Hall of Fame shortstop Hugh Duffy was at the very beginning of what would become a 17-year career when photographed for one of five different poses that would adorn the N172 issue. The .288 batting average Duffy posted in his 1888 season would be the last time the player hit below .300 for ten years topping out at an astounding .440 in 1894 - the highest single-season batting average posted by any player in the history of the game. Duffy's 237 hits and 18 home runs along with 145 RBI and 160 runs scored made for one of the greatest offensive seasons of all-time. Graded VG 40 by SGC due to mild creasing the card is still exceptionally attractive a wonderful example of a key Hall of Famer. Card 135-2.
