Though Hall of Fame shortstop began making the rounds in the late 1980s a frequent signer at memorabilia shows this particular signature was applied to a government postcard and mailed on May 26 1948 from Chicago. On that date Appling's White Sox were home losing to the Philadelphia A's Appling going 0-for-3. The card was mailed directly to an autograph collector in New England that was in possession of the card until his recent passing; we are not posting the card reverse here so we can avoid publicizing his address. A wonderful high-grade vintage signature from a Hall of Fame infielder.
