Issued between 1886 and 1887 the scarce and desirable "KBats" are CDV-sized photographic cards mounted on heavy cardboard. While some have advertising printed on the reverse this particular card is of the blank-backed variety. The scarcity of KBats cards coupled with their desirability among advanced collectors means that they don't trade hands very often. Assembling a complete set is simply impossible with just one registered set between the PSA and SGC registries combined (an SGC-registered set that is just half complete). As such even lower-grade examples routinely sell for thousands of dollars. Beyond those stats though is the fact that this is simply a beautiful well-composed card. Featuring Quakers shortstop Arthur Irwin the photo actually appears to have been taken during practice or game action with teammates positioned in the outfield behind him the ballpark fences visible in the distance. Irwin crouched in the ready position is wearing a fielder's glove on his left hand one of the greatest examples of actual 19th Century baseball photography we have seen. Graded VG+ 3.5 by PSA this is the highest graded example known. Population Data PSA Population: 2 total graded 1 at this level 0 higherSGC Population: 5 total graded 0 at this level 0 higher
