Collection of twelve original photos featuring Babe Ruth during his 1947 nationwide tour sponsored by the Ford Motor Company. Images feature Ruth, one year prior to his death, acting as national director for American Legion Junior Baseball in an effort to promote youth participation in the game. Ford dealerships sponsored many American Legion Junior Baseball tournaments during this era and supplied thousands of American Legion teams with uniforms and equipment throughout the country. All photos in the collection are black and white, measuring approx. 8" x 10", with several including full or partial paper captions attributed to the "Ford News Bureau, West Coast Region." Three of the included photos show former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey (absent Babe Ruth), and one photo is a shot of an American Legion team absent both Ruth and Dempsey. Most examples display some degree of typical handling wear, mostly relegated to the edges, including: creases, scuffs, and rounded corners. 12 original photos total featuring two legendary Hall of Famers in their respective sports.
