Caramelo Deportivo produced multiple paper-thin, black-and-white pictures to cover Cuba's winter league seasons and their 1946-47 contains 185 examples, which survive in mostly low grade today. Alejandro "Alex" Carrasquel, uncle of future infield star Chico, had already won his career 50 MLB games for the up-and-down 1940s Senators, but would play in a variety of winter and minor leagues well into his own 40s.
This CGC AUTH card shows Alex with the Cienfuegos team, perhaps posing next to that day's mount opponent, since they have different jersey sleeves. Its presentation is extremely strong, save for the somewhat faded reverse text advertising Deportivo itself. A sharp card from an important pre-integration set!
