Complete, 49-card set for 1948 Leaf Boxing, arguably the most important postwar boxing issue. Fighters appear as colorized photos against bright red, blue, or white backgrounds, as fit the tastes of Leaf card creators. The skip-numbered set includes important fighters from throughout its photographic history, following the 19th century through the 1940s. About 75% reached the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and 13 won heavyweight titles. (The set's considered complete without an ultra-rare Rocky Graziano card, likely pulled from distribution due to his objections; it remains one of boxing's rarest cards.)
This strong grouping contains a range of PSA/SGC technical grades, with its key cards shown in the auction images. As with most Leaf sports issues, the cards are condition-sensitive and prone to production errors. This consignor focused on well-centered examples throughout, giving this set a visual impact and appeal that goes well beyond numbers alone. It averages mid-grade overall, with many standout examples for their grade. Any Leaf set is already a great achievement by its collector. This one stands several cuts above! A terrific opportunity to score a hobby knockout, in boxing terms.
