An exemplary copy for this hard-to-find N172 player, with relatively clean borders, a sharp image, and depth of contrast that shows almost every uniform crease and wrinkle. Old Judge cards of this caliber stand out like few others can, given their distinctive 19th century photographic progress and century-plus of mellowing since. The PSA population report shows just two examples for this pose, with this VG-EX 4 standing a full three grades higher than its competition!

George Haddock appears here in 1889 at age 22, his first full season at the major league level, and found enough success to stick with professional pitching into his late 20s, peaking with 34 victories for Brooklyn in 1891.

This particular card has the distinction of appearing as Haddock's reference image for #206-2 on page 255 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings in this auction.
