Emmett Seery's statuesque pose and overall composition remind us Old Judge cards were built by hand from bits of paper and photography, a lot like puzzles. While it is rare to see that horizontal rule line along its top border on N172 cards, we can imagine how it helped people doing photo layout place their player photos at just the right angle for consistency.

This SGC VG+ 3.5 grade reflects its slight corner rounding, nice centering and borders, with admirable depth to its central image. The back shows a spot, likely from mounting in an album, that does not detract from its compelling front. The population report shows this is easily the better of just two #406-2 graded examples by SGC!
