Fred Nyce’s card is graded SGC FR 1.5, with wear focused on its left and top edges, while retaining a very strong player image and legible nameplate. It shows decent centering for a card cut tight at top and bottom, reducing the visual benefit of clean borders seen on many other N172 examples. Toning on the reverse and touched corners complete the technical notes, and the SGC population report shows three known examples for this pose, all considered low grade. Given the tradeoff between image quality and border wear, this might even show its strongest overall image for the player himself!
This card appears as #347-4's reference image on page 339 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
