Extremely rare panoramic photo of the 1913 National League Champion New York Giants. Rookie Jim Thorpe appears seventh from the left in the top row, with Hall of Famers John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, Rube Marquard, and Wilbert Robinson also present. Regarded today as one of the greatest athletes of all-time, Thorpe had recently won both the decathlon and pentathlon at the 1912 Summer Olympics, subsequently appearing for the Giants, Reds, and Boston Braves over the next six major league seasons. Following his time in baseball, Thorpe starred for the Canton Bulldogs of the APFA, a direct forerunner to the NFL, and his presence alone helped catapult professional football into the public eye. In its first year of inception, Thorpe was named league president for the National Football League in 1920 and was ultimately enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Mounted to heavy board, the image quality of this historic photo remains tremendous, though wear to the emulsion is apparent with a few heavy creases also visible. Lettering is displayed at the bottom, including "New York Base Ball Club 1913" above identifications of all depicted players. small beer advertisement once appeared in the lower-left corner that has since chipped away along with a significant portion of the top corner on that side.  A "Pach Bros. New York" copyright appears at lower-right. Measures approx. 9" x 21" overall with paper remnants affixed to the verso suggesting removal from a larger mount. A highly desirable Deadball Era team photo in any condition featuring one of the greatest Giants teams in franchise history.
