Prior to 1956, Topps and Bowman jousted often over player contracts, making checklists impractical additions to their sets, lest they publish a list that turned out to be incorrect. Once Topps gained exclusive access to bubblegum cards, they made these checklists a regular part of annual sets.

Their PSA NM 7 and EX-MT 6 grades reflect freedom from major defects, with touched corners and centering a bit north. Often discarded in their day, unchecked lists prove tougher to locate today, and this gives mid-to-high grade set collectors a shot at both together.
