Pictured in the uniform of the Winnipeg Buffaloes of the Manitoba/Dakota League, where he served as player-manager in 1950 and 1951, Hall of Famer Willie Wells signed and inscribed this team portrait photo in blue ballpoint. Likely an original photo, it bears the stamp of photographer Paul Bourbin on the reverse. Slightly underdeveloped, the photo has a matte finish and thin, white borders measuring just a hair shy of 8" x 10", with a blemish of some sort in the right border just under his signature. Though nothing about being prevented from playing major league baseball due to skin color makes one lucky, Wells was fortunate in that his career took place between 1924 and 1948, meaning his statistics were easier to research. As a result, he accumulated 3,920 lifetime at-bats, which makes it impossible to question the legitimacy of his. 330 lifetime batting average and .407 lifetime on-base percentage. A true Hall of Famer, his signature has been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
