Every now and then, baseball produces something rarely seen off or on the field before. In this case, it's a major league pitcher both born overseas (Irish) and capable of throwing with either hand (ambidextrous). The nickname "Count" reflected his good grooming and presentation, so we can believe Mullane must have cut an interesting figure each time he took the mound. A string of five straight 30-win seasons helped Mullane's career win totals approach 300, so his name does resurface when people talk about the best players not already inducted in Cooperstown.
#331-1 shows Mullane ready at the bat, and its SGC GOOD+ 2.5 offers decent image quality with otherwise rougher technical qualities, from corner marks to surface speckling and toning. The back shows honest handling wear, implying this card enjoyed being enjoyed by its former owners. Of the four shown on SGC's population report and one on PSA's, this card still ranks highest! It will be a big day indeed for its owner, should the Count one day garner sufficient Hall of Fame support, as many other collectors would become interested in owning their own.
Please note this SGC holder does have a crack in the upper right corner; we have submitted it for reholdering and it will be shipped to the winning bidder in a new holder.
