The SGC VG 3 grade reflects what appears to be haze from an album mount on the reverse, as well as two small spots on its front. Papo's strong central portrait exceeds the quality seen on newspapers of its era, with square corners and straight edges. So few from this set survive that every one's a treasure, regardless of technical grade. The SGC population report shows just four graded!
Eusebio "Papo" (or "Kakin") Gonzalez logged pro games in Cuba by age 15, an astounding achievement for any country and player. He went on to play two decades of pro ball across North America, including a handful of games for the Red Sox in 1918. Love of the Game is proud to offer many cards of these hard-to-find Latin sets and players in this auction.
