Fantastic Type I photo of Babe Ruth working out in St. Petersburg, FL prior to the 1927 season. Widely regarded as the greatest major league team of all-time, Ruth's 1927 New York Yankees and their vaunted "Murderer's Row" lineup finished the regular season at 110 wins before sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Fall Classic. Ruth also set a new single-season record of 60 home runs that year, a number that stood as the all-time mark for nearly four decades until Roger Maris famously surpassed him in 1961. While memorabilia related to Ruth and the '27 Yankees has always garnered strong attention from collectors, this particular Type I photo remains of particular interest due to being featured on the cover of a New York Times Mid-Week Pictorial supplement issued on 3/24/27. 8" x 10" photo exhibits a 2" crease at the upper-right corner and verso has been heavily inscribed at the top, with text reading:

"Babe just came in to St. Pete this A.M. but acts like he had been having spring training a month."

Additional notations below attribute the image to photographer H.C. Burgert, staff photographer for the Tampa Daily Times. A paper tag, added to the lower-right corner on reverse, appears to be torn from a published version of the Mid-Week Pictorial cover where this image appears. From LOTG's recent Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
