Following his release by the New York Yankees in February of 1935 Babe Ruth quickly signed on with the Boston Braves of the National League. Enticed by the prospect of potentially becoming their manager and co-owner, Ruth agreed to a one-year $20,000+ contract under which his roles included main drawing card, assistant manager, and club vice president. When it became apparent current Braves manager Bill McKechnie would not be departing and after feeling like he had been led on by the Braves front office, Ruth opted to retire after only 28 games, making his final major league appearance on May 25, 1935. This crystal clear photo of Ruth and McKechnie dates to that final season of the Bambino's career and has survived in exceptional overall condition, free of obvious wear to either front or reverse. A few pencil notations have been added to verso with credit stamping from Wide World also applied. This fresh to the hobby photo from LOTG's recent Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography measures 7" x 9" and has been authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
