Exceptional oversized lithographic print memorializing the 1894 bout between James J. Corbett and Charley Mitchell, a three-round bout that resulted in Corbett knocking Mitchell out. Published in Police Gazette in 1894, the piece has been professionally matted and framed (a contemporary framing job), to a majestic finished size of approximately 30" x 24". The piece is in POOR condition overall, with tears and creases throughout, the year "1894" written in pencil at the lower-right, and a small strip of paper with the words "Jacksonville.Fla.Jan.25 1894" typewritten across it, seemingly adhered to the bottom left, covering what appears to be some writing or typography. The matting and framing prevents us from examining the edges and reverse, though the condition is certainly poor. Regardless of technical assessment, the presentation is quite strong, a colorful 19th Century boxing-related piece.
