In the 1980s, an entrepreneur named T. Carlson offered large-format paper models that, when assembled, became sale models of great baseball parks. Accompanied by early computer printouts of assembly instructions with additional information on ballpark history, the models quickly became a favorite among longtime collectors who, armed with scissors and glue, would painstakingly cut out, fold, and glue the many components that were printed on cardstock. Then, over the next 30-40 hours (or more, if they took longer than the instructions suggested), they could build a model of their favorite classic ballpark. In 1986, Carlson published his scale model of Brooklyn's Ebbets Field.

One collector took this project a step further, bringing the ballfield section of the model to various Brooklyn Dodger functions, and having the Ebbets Field grass and infield signed by former members of the team. This clearly became a passion, as he accumulated 112 signatures, all elegantly and carefully placed in blue Sharpie around the field. The card sheets and instructions are well-worn but intact, with staining at the edges and wear from handling.
