Berk Ross of NYC issued 72-card baseball sets in 1951 and 1952, capturing a wide range of important stars, including the last "active" card for Joe DiMaggio in their 1952 set. (Joe had retired after 1951, which could explain why Topps left him out of their own 1952 set.) That list of future Cooperstown inductees includes Robin Roberts, whose bright red portrait was almost certainly borrowed from Phillies media guides and red-tinted to the blown-out look you see here. The level of red ink varies across different Roberts cards, with this version being so bright as to be almost luminous!
Cards for this set came in pairs, similar to 1951 Topps red or blue backs, so high-grade singles bear those distinctive tabs that once linked them to another player. This PSA NM 7 grade reflects its good centering, square edges, and lightly touched corners. A light haze on the lower left corner is likely what holds it back from higher scores. (The small print dots along its left edge appear on all Roberts cards, so must be part of their print process.) An important player for this unusual set in great shape overall.
