Few cards in the hobby have been as consistently hot as the "Green Background" T206 Cobb; for a while it seemed as if a new record was set with each sale. Such astronomical prices quickly rendered attractive midgrade specimens unaffordable. In the case of this example, the card is clean and well-centered, oriented slightly toward the bottom but with clean, wide top, left and right borders. Corner wear is light and unobtrusive, with some very mild soiling on the reverse. Surface wear reduces the technical grade somewhat, noticeable on the left side of the card; however, the image remains sharp and vivid with a bright green background. One of the hobby's key tobacco cards, a must-have for any notable prewar collection.
