An attractive "Brown's Champions" (winners of the 1886 World Series) card, one of the most popular subsets within the N172 issue. St. Louis third baseman Arlie Latham cuts a fine profile in this moderate-contrast image, perhaps anticipating the many adventures his life would contain. While our available space can't cover something so wide-ranging, his personality sounds like Billy Martin, Tom Lasorda, and Ben Franklin rolled up into one man. He appears on six Old Judge poses in all, including a tougher Player's League card from Chicago.
The SGC VG 3 grade has a decent image that cozies right up against its right edge, making centering and touches of corner wear its primary technical issues. The portrait itself and distinctive design retain all their appeal, giving this nominally low grade a better overall impression when held in hand. The population report shows eight total graded by SGC, with just one higher!
