Matty McIntyre starred for several years in the Tigers outifeld, reaching multiple World Series alongside Hall of Fame teammates Sam Crawford and Ty Cobb. He clashed with managers, ownership, and others from time-to-time, which might have limited his long-term career success. 1909-10 marked his final years in Detroit before a move to Chicago.
Matty's card stands out for what's missing from it. SGC graded this unusual variation as E97 Briggs Lozenge because several cards from its checklist reached collectors without color on their fronts or advertising printed on their backs. The SGC VG 3 reflects some corner wear and a short crease near the top right corner. It remains an accessible and presentable example from this scarce black-and-white version of an already tough set. Its population report shows just three graded examples, with none higher!
