Extraordinarily rare "fielding" pose variation, commonly regarded as a Cobb rookie card from the 1907 Dietsche Postcards set.  Two Cobb poses were produced for the issue - one more common example picturing Cobb at bat, and a second, picture him lunging after a ball. The fielding pose is far more difficult to obtain than its counterpart, the prevailing theory being that this pose was made available in 1907 but replaced in subsequent printings, while the "batting" pose was included in both 1907 and 1908.  According to PSA, 77 examples of the "batting" pose have been graded, with just 16 of the "fielding" pose.  Unquestionably, this is a rare card.  In addition, while there are a number of different postcards issued in 1907 that feature Cobb, this is generally considered to be the earliest of them all, making it frequently referred to as his true rookie card.

Of the 16 examples graded by PSA, this is the most recent, a new discovery from the collection of a long-time hobbyist that had yet to embrace third-party grading.  The card had been carefully stored away with the rest of the set, and as a result this becomes one of the highest-graded examples in existence, with PSA having graded just four examples higher.  Corner wear and light edge chipping is the primary culprit responsible for the lower grade, the image is clean and crisp, with very little wear elsewhere.

As the rookie cards of prewar Hall of Famers continue to explode in value, it is our opinion that the rookie cards of Ty Cobb have not begun to even approach their potential. While rookie cards of postwar Hall of Famers have reached well into six-figure territory on a regular basis, the Dietsche Postcard "fielding" pose of Ty Cobb is rare enough that it only makes itself available for public sale once a year or so.  Perhaps the most undervalued rookie card of one of the game's greatest players, an exceptional, fresh-to-the-hobby example of one of Ty Cobb's most difficult cards.
