D329 Weil Baking originates from M101-4, a set of 200 players produced by the print shop of Felix Mendelsohn starting in 1916. Businesses would contract with Mendelsohn to add their business name to card backs and the New Orleans-based H. Weil Baking Co. did so on several sets in the 1910s and 1920s. Few D329s survive today, making every example a prize, regardless of numerical grade.
Slugging, speedy Fred “Cy” Williams led his league in homers four times, twice each during the dead and live ball eras, and would be better remembered today if Chicago and Philly found postseason success during his 19-year career. Cy became the first NL batter to reach 200 career homers and contemporary sources often called him the loop’s best outfielder.
The PSA VG-EX 4 grade reflects slightly rounded corners, toning along its right edge, and a touch of wet ink transfer from stacked print sheets. His central image remains strong and clear, showing why modern researchers compare his form favorably to Ken Griffey or Ted Williams. The population reports show just one each graded by PSA and SGC, making this one of the toughest D329 cards to find!
