Clear, well-printed back variation for H. Weil Baking Co. from the M101-4/5 sets made by Felix Mendelssohn. The photo shows outfielder Hugh High near the end of his MLB career, where he played alongside legends like Ty Cobb in Detroit and Home Run Baker in New York. He soon moved west to star for several seasons in Vernon of the Pacific Coast League.

Hugh's SGC FR 1.5 grade reflects rounded corners, creasing at lower right, and back toning. Weil Baking appears to be one of the food companies that sponsored the 200-player M101-4/5 sets, as back variations feature a range of stores and companies. Contemporary newspapers show advertisers gave some cards away as an incentive for in-person shopping and other companies sold their sets by mail order. Variations prove tough either way, so this is an accessible single for collectors pursuing them! The SGC population report shows just a couple of graded examples and none appear in the PSA report.
