Hage's Dairy of Southern California sponsored regional card sets from 1949-51, offered at concession stands for Lane Field Park, home of the PCL San Diego Padres. Most came packaged with popcorn and it's possible others entered the hobby via company or team promotions. 1950 singles prove tough indeed to find, as the PSA population report shows just 66 total graded across its 128-player checklist. All 1950 cards come with black-and-white fronts and use similar text size for player and team names, distinguishing it from Hage's other years.
Manny Perez spent the late 40s and early 50s in several warm-weather leagues, never quite reaching the majors despite solid performance at every level from frontier ball through AAA. This pinstriped San Francisco look is rare to find on a road uniform and adds something to our understanding of their on-field look. This card includes a Hage's ad back that gave this set its name, and Manny's bio covers other stops he made in those PCL years.
The PSA VG-EX 4 grade reflects slight corner rounding on an otherwise crease-free card. Centering is a bit southward on the front and "Hage's" appears to have a fleck of residue on its logo. Scarcity trumps technical grade for almost all Hage's cards, as their population report shows just two known for Perez!
