Stunning example from a series of cabinet photos featuring members of the 1908 New York Giants as photographed by the Hall's Studio of New York. Each member of the team is photographed without their caps, wearing a white shirt buttoned to the collar. The photography is stunning, each image carefully lit and edited so each subject is at their best.

This example features Hall of Famer Rube Marquard, practically a baby in this image at just 21 years old. Less than a year removed from being told by his father he was not welcome to return home if he was to become a ballplayer, he was auctioned by the Indianapolis Indians and purchased by the New York Giants for the princely sum of $11,000. Marquard's career had a rocky beginning, but he ultimately blossomed, winning 23 or more games in three consecutive seasons for the Giants. At the end of his 18-year major league career, Marquard posted a 201-177 lifetime record with a 3.08 ERA - enough to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971. The Old Cardboard database counts this as a Marquard rookie cards.

An extremely difficult cabinet issue, PSA has graded just six examples - all of which were submitted by Love of the Game over the past few months. This is the highest-graded of the six, the only example of Marquard's cabinet to be evaluated by PSA. It is simply stunning, the photo in wonderful condition with virtually no wear. The mount exhibits some minor wear at the corners and edges, more visible on the reverse, where some mild surface wear is also evident. Regardless, a wonderful piece, an extremely rare rookie card of Hall of Famer Rube Marquard.
