1928 Type I photo of Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby, baseball's greatest sluggers of the 1920's. The Hall of Fame pair are pictured in St. Petersburg, FL where their respective clubs trained in the spring for many years. Two seasons prior, Ruth and Hornsby were involved in one of the single most famous plays in World Series history. In game 7 of the 1926 World Series, with the Cardinals ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Ruth walked. He then attempted to steal second on the next pitch but was gunned down by Cardinals catcher, Bob O'Farrell, with Hornsby applying the tag. To this day it remains the last time a World Series has ended with a runner caught stealing. 6.5" x 8.5" photo remains highly presentable overall with some light general handling wear and a few small creases, mostly relegated to the lower-right corner. Some degree of smudging is present to both surfaces and toning is present to verso, most evident towards the top edge. Credit stamping from Acme Newspictures has been applied to verso identifying them as the issuing service. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
