Spectacular Atlanta Braves lineup card from the October 2, 1974 game between the Braves and Cincinnati Reds. The game was a 13-0 Atlanta rout, Hall of Famer Phil Niekro picking up the complete game shutout for his league-leading 20th victory of the season. It would only be the second 20-win season for Niekro, who would accomplish the feat one more time five years later. Niekro finished third in the Cy Young voting that season. King, who was hired as Braves manager in the middle of the season, became the only person to manage both Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.
Aaron, of course, is the primary reason this lineup card is so significant. In the 7th inning, Aaron hit his 20th home run of the season, off Reds reliever Rawly Eastwick. It was his 733rd and final home run with the Atlanta Braves. Just a month later, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. After the trade, Aaron said "All I know is that I'm happy to be going back home [to Milwaukee, where the Braves played when he first broke in]. This is the first time I've ever been traded. If I was being traded to a city like Chicago or Philadelphia, I'd frown on it. But I'm going back home." As a DH in Milwaukee, Aaron lasted two more seasons and hit 22 more home runs, finishing with 755 lifetime. But for his final game with the Braves, a 13-0 demolition of the Big Red Machine, Hank Aaron had one final smash for the team with which he became famous as the all-time Home Run King. This example is the manager's copy, consigned from the collection of manager Clyde King.
