The 1971 Topps set is considered one of the most condition-sensitive of Topps' history, due in part to the poor quality control of the era leading to print defects and centering issues. If those weren't enough hurdles to climb, the cards featured entirely black borders that were extremely sensitive to chipping. The result is not only that high-grade sets are very difficult, but presentable midgrade sets are also very difficult.  The chipping to the corners and edges can be so egregious that cards that are technically EX condition can really be unattractive.

Presented here is a very attractive midgrade set, largely sharp and crease-free, with a minimum of heavy chipping. Condition flaws primarily relate to the aforementioned print defects as well as light, but honest handling. A technical breakdown of condition might be 3% EX/MT, 22% EX, 44% VG/EX, 26% VG, and 4% GOOD with a few lesser, however the presentation is far stronger.  A breakdown of the key cards is as follows: #5 Munson (VG), #20 Jackson (VG), #50 McCovey (VG/EX), #55 Carlton (EX), #100 Rose (VG), #117 Simmons (VG), #160 Seaver (VG/EX), #180 Kaline (EX), #210 Carew (VG/EX), #250 Bench (G), #280 Jenkins (VG), #300 B. Robinson (VG/EX), #325 Marichal (VG/EX), #341 Garvey (EX/MT), #400 Aaron (VG/EX), #450 Gibson (VG), #513 Ryan (G), #525 Banks (VG/EX), #530 Yastrzemski (VG/EX), #570 Palmer (VG), #580 Perez (G), #625 Brock (EX), #630. Clemente (VG/EX), #640 F. Robinson (G). A very attractive midgrade set. 752 cards total.
