A reasonably well-protected Bill Collins wears his catcher's mask and fielder's gloves, an early appearance for the "tools of ignorance" on this 1887 Old Judge card.  Collins wears the uniform of the New York Giants, though he never played with the team.  In 1887 he signed with the Metropolitans, where he would play one game and appear on seven Old Judge cards as a result (an eighth pose depicts him with the Newark team). Several of Collins' cards picture him wearing catcher's gear, always of interest to collectors.  This example appears very strong, with sharp, EX-MT corners, a clean surface and reasonably strong image quality. Closer inspection reveals some surface staining, a tiny tear at the left edge, and some staining on the reverse.
