Barkley made an agreement to play in Baltimore in 1886, but then was convinced to join the Pittsburgh team. When the American Association suspended and fined Barkley for signing with Pittsburgh, Barkley filed an injunction that would have prevented all interleave play unless Barkley was rostered with Pittsburgh. Barkley remained with Pittsburgh in 1886 and 1887, having moved on to Kansas City by the time this card was produced in 1888.
