Stunning, sharp card of George "Grin" Bradley, thus nicknamed due to his propensity to smile at opposing batters as he pitched. The contrast on this card is remarkable, the typography bold and sharp. Corners are square, with wonderful centering. Bradley won 45 games for the 1876 St. Louis Brown Stockings, a team he shared with Lipman Pike and Dickey Pearce. During that season he pitched a no-hitter against Hartford, which would be the National League's first no-hitter. Most remarkable about the 45 win total, however, is that the total represented every one of the team's wins; Bradley pitched all but four of the team's innings that season. By 1889, Bradley was 36 years old, nearing the end of his career, and was rewarded with five different poses in the N172 issue.
