1927 8" x 10" photo of long-time Chicago White Sox catcher, Ray Schalk, now manager of the club. Schalk caught all six games of the 1917 World Series for his Sox, helping defeat the New York Giants four-games-to-two. Despite these heroics, the Hall of Famer is most remembered as backstop for the 1919 "Black Sox" team implicated in throwing the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. Schalk, however, was never involved in the fix, batting .308 while catching all nine games. The presented photo is fresh to the hobby, depicting Schalk on the top step of his dugout at Yankee Stadium during the summer of 1927. Particularly attractive tonal contrast of the image with typical light creasing and chipping to the corners. Credit stamping from Wide World has been applied to verso and original paper caption is included but has become separated. Authenticated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is provided.
