Without doubt one of his era's most popular players Addie Joss is the only member of the Baseball Hall of Fame to have the career length requirement of 10 years waived so that he could be inducted. Having died prematurely due to illness during his career Joss was also one of the most beloved among his peers and they scheduled a benefit game to raise money for his young family that would essentially become the first All-Star game.
