The Sporting Life magazine covered competition of all kinds for many decades and released this remarkable 288-card pastel creation to help grow subscriptions across 1910-11. The light pastel tones stand out for every subject in this pleasing design, let alone when showing an infamous character like Hal Chase. While the SGC FAIR 1.5 grade reflects corner rounding and surface marks, the light tones used throughout offer a nostalgic impact beyond the condition itself.

Hal Chase grew stronger as a hitter as he aged, perhaps reflecting his talent at enticing teammates and even opposing pitchers into throwing games, shaving points, and otherwise shifting betting odds in their favor. It took considerable time to hold Hal's feet to the fire for his many betting scandals and it wasn't until 1921 that Commissioner Landis took the final step of banning him from MLB play.
