Tremendous playing days card of future Black Sox manager Kid Gleason, owner of a 22-year major league career. In the 19th Century, Gleason was a pitcher, winning 20 games or more in four consecutive seasons (topping out at 38 wins with the 1890 Phillies). In 1895, Gleason was sold to Baltimore, and that team's strong pitching led manager Ned Hanlon to move the former pitcher to second base exclusively, where he played in that wonderful Orioles infield with John McGraw, Hughie Jennings, George Carey and Wilbert Robinson.
