One of just two poses of backup catcher Tom Gunning, this example is quite strong, with a bold, dark image and excellent detail.  Gunning's two poses in the set are unusual ones, particularly in comparison with the more posed examples that populate the set. Gunning played with the Boston Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Athletics, then retiring to Fall River, Massachusetts to become a physician. As a young doctor, he assisted in the autopsies of the Lizzie Borden axe murder case.
