20th Century Fox's 1953 film, Niagara featured Marilyn Monroe in one of her first leading roles. Appearing as femme fatale, Rose Loomis, Monroe would help the film become one of the Fox's most successful pictures of what is often regarded as her breakout year. Niagara was especially noteworthy for establishing Monroe's signature look of bleached blonde hair, red lips, a beauty mark, and dark eyebrows. While creating the film, Monroe stayed at the General Brock Hotel where this image was taken in 1952. A publicity still from the filming of Niagara was famously used by artist Andy Warhol to create what is now one of the world's most famous and instantly recognizable works of pop art. Photo measures 8" x 10" overall with two creases running horizontally across the surface, though these are more evident on verso. Verso includes date stamping of Nov 23, 1953 and a handwritten notation in pencil appears at the bottom edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
